I originally designed this piece years ago, as part of my thesis work at Maine College of art.  When I started doing production I made a few more of them, but I was never satisfied with my original master; the sculpting and proportions lacked grace, and i was never really satisfied.  I loved the concept though, and recently decided to start over and create a new master pattern from scratch.

I hand carved the upper, 'machined looking' portion of the cuff, and made a mold of that form, as well as a mold of a found bone (one that had washed up on a beach.  I believe it came from a harbor seal, but am not certain).  I poured waxes into both molds, then sculpted the two forms together, and had a mold made of this final product.

The sides are lost wax cast here in the states, and the castings are cleaned in house.  The leather washers are laser cut right here in Maine.  They are pressed around a steel coupling nut, which the bolts extend into, holding the entire piece together.

Because there is leather in this cuff I do not recommend wearing it in the shower.  Please do not try to re-size this cuff.  With normal wear and tear it will last for generations, but if it is bent wrong it could snap, and will not be eligible for return.  To see full store policies, please click here.   If you recieve the cuff and would like to adjust the fit please contact me.
