Sister Clip Necklace, Indigo

675.00

This Necklace features a Lost wax cast bronze closure and a cord knotted from hand dyed yarns.  The clasp hangs in the front as a centerpiece.  The cord is loosely dyed and like well made jeans will fade significantly with wear.

Bronze, Cotton, Indigo

Measures 21.5" including the clasps.

Because of the dying process, this piece will "bleed" slightly during the first few weeks of wear.  Pairing it with white garments is not recommended during that period.

This is a one of a kind piece, and can ship immediately.

This cord started out as a spool of american made unbleached 100% cotton twine.  It was indigo dyed by Janelle Adamska here in Portland ME.  After the cord was dyed I fitted strands through the end of each clasp and braided it up using a variation on the kumihimo technique.  The braid is 8 strand 2 ply, meaning that there are 16 individual yarns running through it.  When the braids were of sufficient length I spliced them together using marlinspike knotting techniques.  The splice is low-profile and very strong.  It adds rigidity to the cord, meaning that over time the necklace will mold to the shape if its wearers body.

This is the first piece I have made using this combination of techniques.  It will fade significantly with wear, but I cannot say how long the process will take.  Because the cord is cotton I do not recommencement getting it wet unnecessarily.

I plan to make other pieces of this nature, but it is doubtful that I will ever recreate this exact design.
